Sibutramine has been presented by Abbott Laboratories under
two different brand names: Meridia®
in the USA, and Reductil®
in Europe. When a pharmaceutical company first markets a drug,
it is usually under a patent that allows only the pharmaceutical
company that developed the drug to sell it. A generic drug
is a drug which is produced and distributed without patent
protection. Like all generics, a generic Sibutramine works
